Barauli Village: A Tharu Community Homestay near Chitwan National Park
Barauli village is a Tharu village near Chitwan National Park in Chitwan, Nepal . The village offers community homestay for the visitors with well-maintained huts with attached bathroom.
Unlike other homestays in Nepal where you are supposed to life in the family house, the tharu villagers in Barauli Village offers you a separate cottages. There are 12 cottages for accommodation owned by multiple families in the community.
A warm welcome and the village tour:
Visitor are welcomed with tika ( red paste on your forehead) and garlands by Tharu woman in their traditional dress.
In the evening, you are supposed to visit the local village, where you can see brightly painted houses along the dirt road with children playing, chicken and local dogs around.
Evening, Sunset and traditional Tharu Dance and Jungle safari.
Sight of sunset down the Narayani River is spectacle in the evening. Take a bicycle ride to the bank of Narayani river and enjoy the nature and sunset.
After you enjoyed the sunset and returned back to the cottage, it is time to enjoy the Tharu’s traditional dance performance by some of the villagers. Other villagers gather around as well, to see the dance. The performance include a few traditional dances and songs including the famous Tharu stick dance.
To end the night, delicious traditional Nepal meal dal-bhat-tarkari is offered. You can enjoy a bonfire and enjoy the peace of the village before you sleep.
Next morning is for jungle safari in the community forest that forms a buffer zone to Chitwan National Park. You are taken on a jeep safari to enjoy the birds and wild animals like rhino and deer. Tiger encounter is a very rare case here.

How to reach Barauli Village Community Homestay:
Travel to Sauraha Buspark in Chitwan from Kathmandu or Pokhara by Bus. And you will be brought to the village by an Ox cart if you have pre-informed the village contact person.
Or you may take a private car and drive directly to Barauli village. You can ask the direction to the Village at Sauraha Chowk.
Or take a domestic flight to Bharatpur from Kathmandu or Pokhara and hire a taxi to reach Barauli village .
